Gorillaz - Demon Days (2005)
This is my first real album post in a good long while, so I figured I should make it count. This isn’t a recent discovery or anything, but I’ve loved it for a good long time and recently I was talking to somebody about it so I figured I may as well put it on here. This album is probably my favourite Gorillaz album (despite Clint Eastwood). Or maybe I like Plastic Beach more, I can’t really decide these days. But it’s a great album.
It starts with this fantastic orchestral intro, then it launches into more synth-string orientated numbers like Don’t Get Lost In Heaven, then you end up wondering how the hell you got to Last Living Souls. All the hits seem to be kind of pushed together, or what classes as a hit in my opinion. To be honest, my favourite track on this album has always been Kids With Guns, although it seems to be quite underrated seeing as around it are a cluster of hits - El Manana after it, and Dirty Harry and Feel Good Inc. before it. I love the Jamie T remix of Kids With Guns, it’s really quite eerie. The album eases off after Dare, another hit (Shaun Ryder’s inability to pronounce ‘there’ is something I find quite endearing) and fades off.
Don’t you just love it all?
