Hugh Laurie - Let Them Talk (2011)
Okay, I’ve been debating between this and The King Of Limbs and Helplessness Blues for best album of the year, but I think this claims victory in my favourites. It’s nothing personal, they were all brilliant. But this is just…god. Hugh Laurie is one of my favourite men in the world (but then again so is Thom Yorke, so) but that’s more thanks to his acting career than anything. Thanks to this, he’s way into the music for me, now. Listen to this, let them talk, let yourself be engulfed by bluesy riffs, amazing piano, and Hugh Laurie’s (I want to say ‘sultry’, but no) incredible vocals. Man, this is SUCH a good album. He’s got a really soulful voice, probably helped by all his musical experience in the past (and all his opportunities to imitate a convincing american accent in House). With every track, there are new surprises - you think one’s your favourite song, then you hear the next one’s piano line and you’re like ‘NO THAT ONE!’ - it’s absolutely phenomenal shit. Get on it!
